The Story Behind My Debut CD Desert Trippin'

By Bobby Adams - Reno, Nevada

After 22 years of recording, touring and performing with the punk/hardcore band 7 Seconds, I've crossed over in to the Smooth Jazz genre. I came to love Smooth Jazz after driving limos in Las Vegas. While visiting my parents in Reno, I would make tapes of Smooth Jazz recorded from Digital Music Express on the local cable network. I would let the tapes just play the whole 12 hour shift that I worked. I received compliments on my musical taste from clients such as NBA star Dr. J.

While these tapes would play on and on, I started to notice awesome guitar styles and just had to find out who they were. After some research, I came across names like Norman Brown and Nick Colionne. I went out and bought every Norman Brown CD I could get my hands on!

Now my good friend Anton Walker started playing bass and hosting an open mic night at Burg's Victorian Bar in Sparks. One weekend I was visiting and dropped by just to check it out. They handed me a guitar and had me get up on stage and play. I had no idea what to do. But I went with it and things came together nicely. After 4 years of jamming improvisational music, I decided to pursue my dream of making a Smooth Jazz album. A few years ago, I met Craig Chaquico at a Harley Davidson run in Las Vegas. We spoke about his venture into Smooth Jazz and I became interested in doing my own CD one day. That day would come sooner than I expected.

My uncle, Don Adams, had a small home recording studio. I would spend all day at his house working on tracks and come home with a CD. My wife, Faye, heard it and knew I was on to something. One of my songs actually made her cry! I had days recording where I made myself get choked up a little as well! After time, the studio was limiting my creative process, so one day my wife decided to purchase my own home studio for me. From that point, I would spend hours out in the garage. One of my tracks is actually named The Garage. Well, the Summer went by, then Fall. By winter, I was done mixing and the garage had turned into a deep freeze. Eventually, the time came to send it off to mastering and duplication. Now, I can't believe it's done and a reality! Desert Trippin' is now available at www.cdbaby.com/cd/bobbyadams and at iTunes!

Presently, I am writing my second album with six tracks completed. Future plans include touring, Smooth Jazz cruises, and festivals. Keep an eye out (and an ear) for more Smooth Jazz from Bobby Adams. You're going to love what you hear!
